What is SSEG?

In South Africa, Small Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) registration refers to the process of registering customer-owned generation units, typically less than 1MW/1MVA in capacity, that are connected to the electricity distribution network. Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are the most common type of SSEG.

The registration process ensures that these systems comply with legal and technical requirements, including national legislation, standards, and municipal by-laws. Homeowners and solar PV installers must follow specific steps to register their SSEG systems with either Eskom or municipal electricity distributors like the Overstrand.

Key steps in the SSEG registration process include:

  1. Pre-approval: Homeowners must request pre-approval from the distributor before installing an SSEG system.
  2. Compliance: Ensuring the SSEG system meets all relevant standards and regulations.
  3. Application: Applying for an SSEG connection and paying the applicable fees.
  4. Agreements: Signing necessary agreements with the distributor (Eskom or the municipal distributor).
  5. Final Inspection: Conducting a final assessment to ensure the system is correctly installed and compliant with regulations.

Note! Overstrand is a participating municipality.

At SUPER SOLAR, our installation process includes thorough SSEG registration to ensure compliance and seamless integration with your local electricity network.
